St Philip and St James, Rock
Welcome to St Philip and St James. Set in the small Northumberland estate village of Rock, the 12th century church with Norman features provides a warm welcome to all. We are a growing congregation, who enjoy exploring new ideas and ways of doing and being church together. We have a monthly service which is informal in style and suitable for multi-generational participation. We make the most of our beautiful and picturesque setting, using the church space and grounds to inspire and enrich our worshipping life.
Rock church is a community space and is enjoyed and lovingly maintained by local residents. We host a range of community-based events alongside our worship, including talks about local history and heritage, art exhibitions and seasonal celebrations. Over the last 18 months we have successfully raised funds for the restoration of the church’s electrics and have recently celebrated the wonderful new lighting that brings the building to life and shows off its architectural beauty.
The church is open daily for visitors. You might like to use the church for prayer or quiet reflection and enjoy the tranquillity of our beautiful churchyard next to the village mill pond.

Sustainability
As part of our recent sustainability assessment, we have completed the rewiring project that has brought the building back into use. We are looking to engage further with the local community and collaborate on a variety of initiatives. Finally, we are exploring ways to improve the wildlife value and usability of the churchyard by further interpretation and connection with the local footpaths and estate land.
